Shady Styling - Body Harnesses

Hey!

Shady here (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
As we promised, this year we'll be experimenting with a variety of posts as well as our usual outfit twinning.

One of these new features will be Shady Styling -  Where I'll keep you updated on trends I have come across on the interwebs, show you the best places to find kawaii buys and some ideas on how to style them.

Self styling is all about the experimentation. If you don't get a lil creative with your look you're never gonna find out which styles work best for you. I hope that by doing these posts I'll give you some inspiration for some new outfit ideas.

Something I've been noticing a lot of recently is the use of what would normally be considered as underwear as accessories, such as caged bras, panties and garters, to accentuate an outfit. Using these are a great way to add something a little extra to an outfit which you may have felt looked too simple. A lot of body harnesses are easily adjustable to fit your body size, making them a great way to accentuate curves!

Thanks to the power of Instagram & Tumblr, I came across the cutest shop called Alien Moé, which sells adorably affordable handmade accessories and harnesses. I ordered the Cutiepie harness (size small) in white, and also treated myself to a Snowflake choker to match!

I was very happy with the quality of the items upon receiving them. They arrived in pink packaging (pink is always good) and both are very comfortable and easy to wear. The choker is made of a smooth velvet material and the pom is so fluffy! The harness took a minute for me to get into but that's just because I'm a little slow...

But once I managed to get it on, the silky satin material was hardly noticeable. I had been worried it would feel a little tight, but it was surprisingly stretchy and I had no problem moving around in it. I would definitely recommend this store for anyone interested in purchasing something similar. The products are clearly made with care, priced well and international delivery time was pretty reasonable. The store also does custom fits if necessary and currently has a 15% discount code 'ALIENMOE' valid until February 2016.

I can't wait to create an outfit using these two pieces. Hmmm, I'm thinking lots of pink and princess feels? So stay tuned, you'll be seeing that very soon!

I know that Choom has a couple of harnesses of her own and decided to be a little detective and question her for her own tips and tricks. Hers are from the Japanese brand One Spo (I'm so envious that she has been shopping there tbh) and she owns one in both black and white. This is a great idea, because then she can have one to suit whatever mood she's in. I might have to do the same...

A lot of people tend to see harnesses as just kinky/fetish wear which isn't always the case. True, you can wear them with nothing, or you can get layering up! Choom decided to layer hers over a Liz Lisa dress to show that they can be cute and girly. She said she was happy with the high quality of these harnesses in particular as she doesn't like to buy things which she feels like she could have made herself!

This next part is somewhat of a wishlist/inspiration section if you are interested in getting into the harness trend too.

I spotted this caged bra available at Himi on Storenvy, which is a great online store if you are looking for cute things in particular! It comes in three colours, but I'm especially in love with the pink version. I think it would look great with a white crop top and a pleated skirt. Take note that this store is based in China, so if you are thinking of ordering anything for an occasion and you live internationally don't forget to consider the delivery time!

Deandri is another cool store I found on Instagram. Their goth aesthetic almost makes me want to throw away my love of other colours, become a witch and just live in black clothes forever. But I love pastels just a little too much to make that commitment. They have a really cool selection of different shaped harnesses, collarbands and belts in monochrome and even in metallic silver and gold.

This lil collage of goodies from Devil666ish makes me die a little when I look at it because I want everything so bad! I love the items in this online store, they are so playfully creative with their designs and have a mix of dark/punk stuff as well as the bright and colourful ones I'm showing you. Any of these would look cute on a cyber girl who wants to make a statement. The prices are slightly higher than the previous stores, but I think this fairly reflects the quality and added details of their products. I really want to get their bunny harness at some point, I think the pom-tail addition at the back is just too adorable.

Ok so I'm mentioning Creepyyeha as more of a fantasy/dream, as it is a more high-end, luxury priced store than the others. If you are lucky enough to afford anything from here can you help your girl Shady out too? I joke, I joke.

This store can also be found on Storenvy and is owned by designer Yeha Leung in NYC. The brand has gained a lot of recognition and designed custom pieces for celebrities such as singer FKA Twigs to be worn at her live shows. The items are all made to order and can be custom-fitted, as well as there being both a faux or real leather option for you to choose from. I personally am in love with the pink valentine tutu belt, which I think would look great layered over some high waisted shorts, or even to add some extra volume at the waist of an already floof-tastic skirt!

I hope this post gave you some inspiration and got you thinking a little more about how you can turn things which are typically seen in a certain way  (i.e. something typically viewed as fetish wear worn instead as outerwear) and twist it on its head for a cool alternative look.

I'll be back again soon with more of my internet styling finds, so stay tuned!

Shady xx
